The first Little Miss AKA Pageant was held in 1988. Since then, it has become the primary biennial fundraiser for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Lambda Omega Chapter. Through support from contestants, parents, chapter members, local businesses and the community, more than $100,000 in scholarships have been awarded to deserving college-bound African-American women.
Kappa Lambda Omega continues its tradition of cultivating young ladies with its biennial Little Miss AKA Pageant. The pageant is the pinnacle of months of cultural, educational, and social activities for the contestants.
Contestants, ages 7–12, participate in activities designed to help them gain friendships, poise, leadership skills, and a passion for philanthropy from positive role models in the sorority and the community. The contestants are introduced to local pageant queens who share information about their successes, education, and the importance of giving back to the community through volunteering. Contestants enjoy activities such as a skating party, the Mother-Daughter Luncheon, a field trip to the Frist Center for Visual Arts, a community service project, and workshops on good nutrition, proper etiquette, internet safety, fashion do's, and positive self-esteem.
The Little Miss AKA Pageant is successful because of the generous support from sponsors and our comminty.
